KrowdSpot (“KrowdSpot”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is an independently operated project based in Ghana.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you when you use KrowdSpot.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you use KrowdSpot.
Account information
If you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, profile photo or avatar, authentication information, and account preferences.
Contributions
When you contribute to KrowdSpot, we may collect and publicly display information associated with your contribution, such as reviews, ratings, photographs, place information, corrections, reports, contribution dates, and your public profile name or avatar.
Location information
KrowdSpot may request access to your device's location to provide features such as nearby places, distance calculations, map positioning, location-based search, and local recommendations.
We only request device location when a feature requires it. You can generally control location permissions through your browser or device settings. We do not need your precise location to provide basic browsing functionality.
Usage information
We may automatically receive technical information when you use KrowdSpot, such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages or features accessed, approximate geographic information derived from an IP address, timestamps, and technical logs. The exact information collected depends on the infrastructure and services used by KrowdSpot.
Cookies and similar technologies
KrowdSpot may use cookies or similar technologies for authentication, maintaining sessions, remembering preferences, security, basic functionality, and understanding how the Service is used. We do not use cookies to sell your personal information.
2. How We Use Information
We may use collected information to operate KrowdSpot, create and manage accounts, provide location-based discovery, display reviews and contributions, process user submissions, provide maps and search, save user preferences, secure the Service, prevent abuse and fraud, diagnose technical problems, improve the Service, communicate with users about support or important service matters, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
3. Public Information
Some information you submit is intended to be public. For example, if you submit a review, other users may be able to see your public name, profile image, review, rating, photos, and when the contribution was made.
Do not submit information that you do not want publicly associated with your contribution.
4. Location Information
Location access is optional unless a specific feature requires it. If you grant location permission, KrowdSpot may use your location to identify nearby places and provide location-based features. We do not publicly display your precise device location to other users. You can revoke location permission through your browser or device settings.
5. How We Share Information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate KrowdSpot. These may include providers for hosting, databases, authentication, maps, image storage, email, analytics, security, and infrastructure. These providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to provide their services.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights or safety of KrowdSpot or others, investigate abuse or security incidents, or enforce our Terms of Service. We do not sell your personal information.
6. Third-Party Services
KrowdSpot may use third-party services to operate parts of the platform. Depending on the implementation, these may include services for maps, authentication, hosting, databases, image storage, email, analytics, and security. Those providers may process information according to their own privacy policies. You should review the privacy policies of third-party services where appropriate.
7. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain account functionality, preserve legitimate user contributions, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information.
8. Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account by contacting us. When an account is deleted, we will take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize associated personal information, subject to information that we are required or permitted to retain. Public contributions may be retained in an anonymized form where necessary to preserve the integrity of KrowdSpot's place and review information.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. You should use a strong, unique password and protect your account credentials.
10. Children's Privacy
KrowdSpot is not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to KrowdSpot in a manner that violates applicable requirements, contact us so that we can review and take appropriate action.
11. International Processing
KrowdSpot may use infrastructure and service providers located outside Ghana. As a result, information may be processed or stored in countries other than Ghana. Where required, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that applicable legal requirements relating to such processing are respected.
12. Your Choices
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights relating to your personal information, including the ability to request access to information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion, withdraw certain permissions, object to certain processing, or ask questions about how your information is used.
Some information may need to be retained for legal, security, or legitimate operational reasons. To exercise a privacy-related right, contact us.
13. Location and Browser Permissions
You can control permissions such as location, notifications, camera, and other browser capabilities through your device or browser settings. Disabling certain permissions may prevent corresponding KrowdSpot features from working.
